Disruption is the new normal. Is your career built to survive it?

Being a High Agency Professional -Podcast Recommendation

Whether you are a parent mapping out your child’s future or a professional navigating the AI wave, the anxiety is identical. We are all asking the same question: How do we prepare for a future we can't quite see?

The answer lies in a fundamental shift in how we view our careers. I recently listened to an insightful dialogue between Rishad Tobaccowala and Veronika Kryuchkova that crystallised the solution: We must stop climbing ladders and start building portfolios.

To thrive in a "Human + Machine" economy, they propose a three-part framework:

1. Adopt "High Agency". Passive employees are at risk. High Agency professionals combine ownership with accountability. This mindset creates optionality, allowing you to pivot seamlessly when industries change.

2. Diversify Your "Capability Stack". It is no longer enough to have a single specialisation. We need a stack of assets:

  • Core Capabilities: The hard skills to deliver results today.

  • Human Capabilities: The empathy and creativity that machines cannot replicate.

  • Future Capabilities: The agility to unlearn old methods and relearn new tools.

3. Treat Your Career as an Investment Portfolio. The linear path is gone. View your skills as assets that you own and manage. Like a financial portfolio, you want skills that compound in value over time, regardless of what the market does.

The future belongs to those who don't compete with the machine, but leverage it to become more human.
